Terms and Conditions

Please read our terms and conditions carefully. These terms and conditions include our cancellation and refund policy. By booking a tour with us you confirm you agree to these terms and conditions.

Bookings are confirmed when Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf has received the full payment for the booking. When bookings are confirmed we send you a confirmation e-mail and then a binding contract is in place.


Use of the Website:

By using the website, you agree to not use, sell, download, copy, share, reproduce, publish or broadcast anything from the website except for your own personal use. If you wish to use the content of our website for commercial purposes you must send us a request and then receive written approval from us.


VAT (value-added tax) is included in all prices shown on the website unless otherwise stated.


Cancellation and amendments:
We charge a cancellation fee of 10% if it is cancelled more than 2 days before the event
We charge a cancellation fee of 90.0% if cancelled 48 hours or less before the event 
There is no refund if it is cancelled less than 24 hours before the event
In the case of cruise ships, If the ship cannot dock or passengers are kept on board for some reason (e.g. Weather conditions), standard cancellation rates apply and no refunds are offered if the notice is less than 24 hours.
Bookings can be amended up until 1 hour before departure of the activity or transport booked. If the new departure time is later than in the original booking, the time of which the cancellation terms apply is the time of the original booking.
The above cancellation charges may differ if you have booked your tour through a third party and not directly from us.
No-show passengers:
In case the passenger does not show up for the tour or transport service (including the Airport Bus) and has not cancelled or amended the trip according to our cancellation terms, the total amount is charged and is not refundable afterwards. 
Passengers are considered a no-show if they have not shown up at the meeting point that they chose for the service and been in contact with a staff member at that point at the designated pick-up time.
Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf does not call passengers that do not show up on time.
Refund policy:
The refund is only eligible if a notification email is sent to sysli@sysli.is sooner than 48 hours before departure (Subject line: Ticket refund). The following information needs to be included in the mail: booking number, name on the booking, date of booking and what tour was booked. When the refund has been credited back to the card, you will receive a confirmation email by a company's staff member confirming the refund. It may take up to 7 days for the refund to go through.
Passengers can also request a refund by going through the process in "Manage my booking" on our website.
Confirmation of services:
Your booking will not be confirmed and booked until full payment has been received.
Privacy policy:
All personal information will be strictly confidential and will not be given or sold to a third party.  
Dress code:
Passengers are responsible themselves for bringing suitable clothing for the trip (e.g. according to weather)


Cancellations and Changes by Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf:

We reserve the right to alter the itinerary and locations, have a longer or shorter journey time or cancel the tour due to weather, road conditions, safety reasons, actions of other agencies/persons/companies, not reaching the minimum number or other unforeseen circumstances. We reserve the right to change the services, itineraries and prices described in our leaflets or website.


We would not change the price of a tour if a booking has been confirmed. We will inform you of the changes as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of the client to provide valid contact details.


If the tour is cancelled by Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf, a full refund will be issued to the client. Where possible in addition to the choice of a full refund we will also offer the choice of an alternative tour or a similar/equivalent tour with another operator. The choice of a full refund will always be an option for the client if the tour is cancelled by Sýsli ferðir og ökukennsla ehf.


Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. is not responsible for any expenses and costs incurred due to factors outside its control such as weather and road conditions, flight issues, actions of other agencies/persons/companies and other unforeseeable circumstances. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. will not refund any personal expenses the client may have incurred as a result of their booking such as travel insurance, flights, equipment etc.

Northern lights Tours and the free retry offer:

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and their sighting are also dependent on weather conditions, therefore, we cannot guarantee they will be seen and cannot offer a refund if they are not sighted during the tour. If the guide confirms the lights have not been seen, we will offer a free retry the next day. The free retry is subject to Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. operating a tour the next day. We cannot guarantee a tour will be operating the next day due to weather and road conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.


Pick up:

If your tour, transfer or transport includes pick up, it is the passenger's responsibility to inform us of the location that they require pick up from when booking the tour. We collect passengers from different locations therefore, there is a 15-minute pick-up window when passengers are picked up from different locations. Please ensure that you are ready for the tour and waiting at the assigned pick-up point 15 minutes prior to departure. It is the passenger's responsibility to be at the assigned pick-up point from the start of the pick-up time. Missing the pick-up time does not entitle the customer to a refund. You will be informed of the pick-up timing on confirmation of the tour.

Pick up for the Airport Bus or other bus routes operated by Sýsli - ferðir of ökukennsla ehf is at the designated bus stop, which the passenger chooses upon making the booking. The Airport Bus and other bus services are public bus services, and it is the passenger's responsibility to be at the bus stop in time for the departure. We recommend being there at least 5 minutes prior to departure as all departures in the timetables are estimates. Drivers and other staff from Sýsli - ferðir of ökukennsla ehf do not go into places of accommodation or other areas outside of the bus route to check if passengers are ready.

Under no circumstances will staff from Sýsli - ferðir og ökukennsla ehf call passengers who have not shown up for their booking as the passengers bear the full responsibility of being at the designated pick-up place.

Right to deny participation:

Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. reserve the right to deny participation at any time to any passenger who is likely to pose a safety concern or whose conduct is likely to cause distress or offence to other passengers or if we believe a passenger is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.


Clothing and Footwear:

Temperatures and conditions in Iceland can be severe therefore please ensure that your clothing and footwear is appropriate for the weather and conditions of the tour. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. take no responsibility for passengers whose clothing or footwear is not appropriate for the weather or conditions and reserve the right to deny the participation of a passenger whose clothing or footwear poses a safety concern.


Medical Conditions:

If a customer needs special assistance it should be mentioned when booking the tour. By booking a tour with Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. you confirm that you are physically and medically fit to follow the instructions of the guide and participate in the tour and all of the tour’s activities. Temperatures and conditions in Iceland can be severe and some tours may have bumpy routes and/or require prolonged physical activity in freezing/windy conditions. Therefore, passengers with any medical conditions should confirm with their physician that they are fit to participate in the tours in Iceland. Please contact us in advance if you require further information about the tour’s activities to provide to your physician. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. do not take any responsibility for clients who have not cleared their medical fitness with a physician before going on a tour and reserve the right to deny their participation on the tour. Passengers with allergies should inform the guide at the start of the trip of their allergy and inform them if there are any necessary precautions that need to be taken during the tour.



Our guides will communicate with passengers in English during the tour. By booking the tour with us you confirm you have a sufficient understanding of the English language to be able to understand and follow instructions from the guide. If you do not have a sufficient understanding of the English Language you must provide a qualified interpreter and take full responsibility for ensuring the guide's instructions are understood and followed. Passengers must inform us if they wish to bring an interpreter in advance of the tour for further information.

Liability and Passengers' responsibility:

We advise all passengers to have their own travel insurance. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. cannot be held responsible for any mishap occurring to a passenger and cannot take any responsibility for personal items or luggage belonging to passengers.


By booking a tour with us you accept that all outdoor activities have inherent risks and all activities are undertaken at the passengers' own risk and that they must take responsibility for their own actions and safety. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. do not take any responsibility for the client’s behaviour and/or the client not following the guide’s or partner organisation's instructions. Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. do not assume any responsibility for accidents, mishaps, losses, damage, injury or sickness that are caused by passengers or can be traced to a passenger's actions including not following the guide’s instructions or that are caused by force majeure events.


Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. cannot be held responsible for any mishap, damage, loss, accident, injury, sickness, itinerary change, cancellation, incurred cost, default, delay or other factors that are due to weather, flight cancellations, natural disasters, strikes, actions of other agencies/persons/companies (e.g airlines, restaurants, police), unforeseen circumstances or that are caused by factors outside Sýsli -ferðir og ökukennsla's control including force majeure events.


Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the tour. The adult must take responsibility for them. Parents and/or legal guardians must take full responsibility for the behaviour of and/or damages caused by children under 18 years old.

Covid 19:

All passengers must make themselves familiar with Covid restrictions that can affect their tour. Restrictions are posted on the sysli.is website as well as any changes to those. All passengers agree to follow these restrictions as well as any updates made to them by booking with us. Passengers not willing to follow restrictions will not be allowed to participate in the tour and will not be eligible for a refund.



By purchasing a tour, you agree to these terms and conditions and confirm that you understand their implications, accept responsibility for your participation in your trip and you acknowledge that we have taken all reasonable steps to safeguard our liability in this respect. This agreement is made subject to and must be interpreted and enforced according to Icelandic law.

Disputes can be taken to the Complaints Committee of Services and liquidity Purchases at the Icelandic consumer agency

In case of any legal dispute, a case should be run at the district court of Northeast Iceland (Héraðsdómur Norðurlands)


Sýsli - Ferðir og ökukennsla ehf. reserve the right to change and update these terms and conditions at any time and will do this by updating our terms and conditions online.
